PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Mets captain David Wright is up to the task of starting at third base on opening day, but is his back?
Limited with back and neck injuries the last two seasons, Wright said he’s coming into spring training healthier than he’s been in a few years and looking to continue the process of rehabbing from a 2015 neck surgery. Wright was in Port St. Lucie working out days before many other players, trying to get in extra work and get his back ready for the season.
Wright, Collins on Familia
Wright held his first press conference Tuesday, on the third day of Mets spring training. He talked about his rehab from surgery, how tough the last two years have been on him and what his plan is for the rest of spring.
Manager Terry Collins also talked about how honest Wright has been with him about his injury history and what that means to the team.
Mets pitchers and catchers held their first official workout of spring training Tuesday at Tradition Field. Position players report to camp Friday and the team holds their first full squad workout Sunday.
