CLEVELAND, Ohio  — Actor/comedian Nick Cannon, who has served as the host for the popular reality talent show since 2009, “America’s Got Talent,” has announced that he will probably not return to the show due to an NBC executive threatening to fire him over a joke he told on a comedy special for Showtime.

According to Variety, the joke in question included an acronym for NBC, making reference to a racial slur.

“After days of deliberating over some extremely disappointing news that I was being threatened with termination by Executives because of a comedy special that was only intended to bring communities closer together, I was to be punished for a joke,” says Cannon in a lengthy Facebook post.

“So I wish AGT and NBC the best in its upcoming season but I can not see myself returning.”

“America’s Got Talent” is one of NBC’s highest rated shows during the summer months.
