Packy memories: In 1962, when I was 6, my dad took me to the zoo to see Packy. I remember the dark viewing room with the floor-to-ceiling glass. That room was packed. On the other side of the glass was a four-foot wide area and then some large vertical bars, behind which were the elephants. Dad had a surprise for me. A friend of his worked at the zoo and I got a front row visit by those big vertical bars with Packy up close and personal! I will never forget that.

Voters’ voices: For almost a year, the Republicans have said the American people should have their voices heard regarding who the next Supreme Court nominee should be. And the American people resoundingly said no to Trump, by almost 3 million votes. Let the Democrats, reflecting the votes of a majority of Americans, select the next nominee. Sure, Trump is the “so-called” president due to gerrymandering and the historical quirk of the electoral college; but outside of Trump’s narcissistic delusions, no one can claim that he represents a majority of the American people, and it is they, not he, who should determine the next Supreme Court nominee by the Republicans’ own logic.
