The 2017 Grammy Awards was a night to remember, especially when Adele took the stage to voice her opinion about winning album of the year over Beyoncé. The “Hello” singer was unhappy about her win and there were several fans who agreed that she shouldn’t have won the award.
Beyoncé’s fan base, known as the Beyhive, took to the internet to rally behind their queen after she lost the coveted award for album of the year to Adele. Even the “All I Ask” singer expressed her disappointment that the songstress, who is expecting twins with husband Jay Z, was snubbed.
“I can’t possibly accept this award, and I’m very humbled and very grateful and gracious, but my life is Beyoncé,” Adele said while on stage after being named victorious in the award category.
“And the album to me, the ‘Lemonade’ album, Beyoncé, was so monumental and so well thought out,” she said. The “25” artist went on to commend the “Formation” singer for creating empowering music and sharing a side of herself the public rarely gets to see.

While she was onstage, Adele snapped her Grammy in half as a way to share it with Beyoncé. Once backstage in the pressroom, the singer continued to praise the expectant mom. “For me, my album of the year was ‘Lemonade,’ so a piece of me did die inside as a Beyoncé fan. I’m not going to lie, cause I was completely rooting for her — I voted for her,” Adele told the media.
Like Adele, the Beyhive felt their queen was robbed of the coveted award. “Adele wins the electoral college, but Beyoncé wins the popular vote,” one fan tweeted.
“I’m so glad Adele is being real about this because they completely snubbed Beyoncé. Smh,” another disappointed fan wrote. “Even Adele admitted that Beyoncé should have won album of the year.#GRAMMYs #Beyonce #Adele,” one Beyhive member tweeted.
Although some were unhappy with Adele’s win, they did appreciate her honesty about winning the award over Beyoncé. “I love Adele so much for using her acceptance speeches to support & uplift other women. She’s what we all should aim to be,” one fan wrote. “I have so much respect for Adele. Even when she wins she humbly praises other artists and that’s so cool,” one Twitter user tweeted.
