Entering year 16 of construction, the Majesty Building overlooking Interstate 4 in Altamonte Springs still lacks interiors, structured parking and site work, but a new plan could be on the way.

The owners of the 18-story office tower hope to submit a new construction schedule in the next few months and would like to finish it this year, City Manager Frank Martz said this week. The iconic structure stands as the tallest between Orlando and Jacksonville.

Almost every year since almost the turn of the century, SuperChannel 55 President Claud Bowers has said he plans to complete the self-funded, pay-as-you-go project within a year to 18 months. He did not return phone calls Thursday.

In the past, he has raised funds on his Christian television station and also got a settlement from the state for some land in the path of the I4 expansion.

“He continues to do the building debt free and he’s indicated to us he’s going to continue on that path,” Martz said, adding the city has a good relationship with the builder.

Martz said the city would like to see the building completed as much as anyone and is working with Bowers to keep his building permit alive for as long as the project moves forward.

When asked if the city would have a party at Crane’s Roost once the building was finished, Martz laughed and said Altamonte already has a robust events schedule.
