BEACHWOOD, Ohio – Four men stole an ATM during a smash-and-grab robbery early Thursday at a Beachwood gas station, police said.

The robbery happened just after 3 a.m. at a BP on Chagrin Boulevard at Richmond Road.

A BP employee saw the four men back a 2003 Chrysler Town and Country into the storefront. The four men took the ATM and left in an SUV, police said.

Detectives are reviewing surveillance video in an attempt to identify the men. Detectives could not release the surveillance video Thursday afternoon because they are waiting for a BP employee to make a copy of the video, police said.

Investigators learned the Chrysler had been stolen from a parking lot outside a Cleveland Heights apartment building, police said.

The BP was closed Thursday as crews performed maintenance. It’s unclear when the gas station will reopen, a BP employee said.

Smash-and-grab ATM thefts have affected communities throughout Northeast Ohio. In November, five men were indicted and 23 others were identified as being part of a Cleveland-area ring that targeted businesses to steal ATMs.
