All manner of weird toppings and crusts have been inflicted on pizza over the years — pineapple, cheesesteak, baked beans, sardines, sour cream, you name it.

Now comes fried chicken pizza — from Kentucky Fried Chicken, of all people.

The Chizza — what else? — is on the menu at KFCs throughout Asia, according to Fortune.com. Instead of traditional pizza dough, the base is, um, fried chicken.

KFC CHIZZA Chicken Pizza

The pizza “is essentially a personal pan pizza with the traditional fixings with mozzarella cheese and pizza sauce with a slice of ham and pineapple slathered in KFC’s special cheese sauce,” according to a review at thecomeback.com.

I thought it sounded promising until the pineapple part.

The Chizza is a cheesy second cousin to KFC’s Double Down, a bacon and cheese sandwich with fried chicken taking the place of the bun.

The Chizza was first introduced in the Phillipines, then spread to India, Korea, Taiwan. It most recently debuted in Japan late last year and Singapore earlier this month.

Could the Chizza make its way to the U.S. some day? Alas, here comes the bad news: According to Thrillist, a Yum! Brands spokesperson says they have no plans presently to bring the Chizza stateside. Still, clogged-artery hope springs eternal.
