A Roselle man was ordered held in lieu of $250,000 bail after police said they found a pipe bomb inside the Airbnb room he was renting.

The incident early Thursday caused the evacuation of at least two buildings on the West Side.

Michael Debrown, 25, appeared in court Saturday before Judge Donald Panarese who set the bail at the Leighton Criminal Court Building.

Debrown, of the 600 block of Autumn Drive in Roselle, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, which is a felony.

Prosecutors said police found a 10-inch pipe bomb with a fuse that contained 6.5 ounces of powder that tested positive as “flash powder” inside the Airbnb room he was renting.

Debrown was arrested and charged with being in possession of an explosive device, which was discovered inside a residence in the 3500 block of West Flournoy Street about 1:15 a.m. Thursday.

Later that same morning, about 10:55 a.m., Debrown was taken into custody at the same residence after returning to the property to retrieve his belongings, police said.

The incident, which caused the evacuation of at least two buildings, started when police responded about 1:15 a.m. Thursday in Homan Square after the host of an AirBnb reported suspicious materials in one of the bedrooms he was renting out. Police evacuated about 20 people while they investigated, allowing them back in around 2:40 a.m. after determining there was no threat.

"My AirBnb is the Bomb!" the AirBnb host, Mike Duckworth, later posted on Facebook. "I officially managed to get the entire CPD and every News Crew in Chicago at my House. Sorry Mom."

The AirBnb host evacuated his building and called police. Responding officers evacuated neighboring apartments as a precaution.

At least 20 people, including several children, waited outside in 20-degree weather until a spare CTA bus arrived to keep them warm.
