SAN ANTONIO — It’s not every day that San Antonio’s Alamo plays host to a free premiere party to celebrate an upcoming TV episode.

That’s what’s happening tonight, however. “The Daytripper with Chet Garner,” a Texas travel show which, this week, features the Alamo, River Walk, Tex-Mex food and other S.A. delights, is the centerpiece for festivities in Alamo Hall and its nearby gardens.

In a preview clip, Garner said the half-hour — which airs on KLRN at 9 a.m. Saturday, and will be carried by many other Texas PBS stations — will explore “the giant, never-ending fiesta that is San Antonio’s bustling downtown.”

Garner will be there for a meet-and-greet, and revelers will be treated to a screening, prizes and music. The fun starts at 6:30 p.m.

“On the show, Chet Garner travels around the state showcasing some of the fun things you can do, eat, taste and smell. He also has been a friend of the General Land Office’s State of Texas history program,” said Britanny Eck,  press secretary for the Texas General Land Office.

“He did a show on San Antonio, and came to the Alamo, of course, as well as lots of other places,” she added.

So the Alamo helped coordinate a sneak-peek party.

“It will be a similar setup  to the movies we do in the back of the Alamo near Alamo Hall,” Eck said.

Entertaining the crowds from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. will be  Katy McKenzie, an up-and-coming country artist.
