Only one in ten Spaniards plans to spend more than in 2022. This year consumers face the Christmas campaign with a more rational vision than in previous years, preferring to buy in physical stores with cash and with greater advance notice.
Barcelona, December 14, 2023.- This year consumers face the Christmas campaign with a more rational vision than in previous years.
The purchasing trends of Spaniards for Christmas 2023 reveal a panorama in which consumers are going to start shopping earlier than in previous years to spread their expenses over a longer period and look for the best offers.
It is important to note that more than half of Spaniards are inclined to visit their trusted physical store and pay with cash.
The item with the highest expenditure during these holidays is gifts, 53% of the 745 euros estimated by an OCU survey. These purchases are the ones that cause the most stress and cause a greater mismatch with the initial budget. The second big Christmas budget is allocated to meals, both at home and away, 20% of the total.
In this context of inflation, many consumers are concerned about spending “more than expected” and are reluctant to apply for consumer loans given the high interest rates.
A solution available to many people is to recover the immobilized money, the forgotten coins that are in homes, in purchase vouchers that families can exchange at their trusted supermarket or hypermarket. This is a convenient and reliable way to cash in money that can increase the value of your shopping cart instantly. It simplifies the lives of consumers and makes it very easy for them.
According to Jacques Giribet, general director of Coinstar Spain, “thanks to the Coinstar service, families can make their Christmas shopping more complete and treat their loved ones to the gifts or food they want without having to resort to credit or defer payments with the credit card”.
Coinstar® kiosks can be found in more than 650 locations throughout the country, including the Canary Islands. In Carrefour, Eroski, Dia, Bon Preu, Spar, Condis, Caprabo, Masymas, Hiber, E. Leclerc, Diaz Cadenas and Musgrave establishments.
The preference of Spanish consumers for physical sales channels and cash payment is of special importance in those establishments that have a Coinstar kiosk, since it is a differentiating element of the offer that has a significant degree of loyalty: 95% of Coinstar users say they will use the service again.
Thus, retail achieves an increase in traffic, billing and margin, and, at the same time, encourages an increase in the average ticket without worries on the part of consumers.
Coinstar has established itself as an ally that provides important benefits for retail. Since 2019, Coinstar Spain has channeled 200 million euros in extra billing to its food distribution retailers, an annual average of €120,000 per partner.
