After fire of a newly renovated administrative building in Straubing on night of Saturday, police are at least five million euros in damage. “The building is burned down to exterior walls,” said a police spokesman on Saturday morning. The former youth centre was equipped as an extension of Straubing Science Centre with offices and a lecture hall.
“The roof chair is completely burned out,” said City Brandrat Stephan Bachl on Saturday morning. Ground floor and first floor of newly renovated, historic building are damaged by extinguishing water. Around building close to city centre was also morning fire smell in air. The roof beams were charred, brick fell down.
About 150 firefighters were in use until morning. “This is bitter,” said Lord Mayor Markus Pannermayer (CSU) visibly affected. “Not only because of historic building, but also because we urgently need land.”
The city Hall chief said that Free State had invested four million euros in renovation of former youth centre. In a few weeks building should have been handed over. “That throws us back for years now.”
The area where fire broke out is part of “Campus Straubing for Biotechnology and sustainability”. Since spring, a 40 million euro-expensive new building is being built in lower Bavarian city, where on 8000 square meters of space, among or laboratories, and anor lecture hall are to be accommodated.
Three new courses of study are established in Straubing. From 1 October to existing teaching offer in field of renewable raw materials. The police initially did not provide any information on cause of fire. The fire had erupted after first findings in attic. The investigators did not want to mention furr details on Saturday morning.

It was only in November of last year that historic town hall was burned down in straubing parts. The fire had hit attic and hall of more than 600 year old building. The amount of damage was about two million.
As Straubing Town Hall is built until 2021, building destroyed by a fire is to stand again-and its dignity is preserved. By Andreas Glas more…
