It’s Metallica. The venerated rock band has announced a June 16 Soldier Field date

Eyebrows raised at the Grammy performance with Lady Gaga, who used her Super Bowl halftime stint as the interest launchpad for a tour announcement. Also as with Lady Gaga, Metallica’s tour call was almost immediate.

The 25-date national tour starts May 10 in Baltimore, and is in support of Metallica’s latest album, "Hardwired … To Self-Destruct," that received two stars from Tribune critic Greg Kot. Each ticket sold through an official outlet will include a physical or digital copy of "Hardwired."

Opener for the Chicago stop will be Avenged Sevenfold.

Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Friday via www.LiveNation.com. There will also be Tuesday presales for various groups, including Metallica Legacy Fan Club members as well as Citi cardholders. Visit www.metallica.com for complete information.
