RARITAN TWP. — N.J.’s best soup can be found at Cook to Order in Raritan Township (Hunterdon County), says The Daily Meal, which picked the best soup in every state.
The food website called the deli/restaurant’s broccoli and cheese soup “a standout,” while noting that chef/owner Brendan Stokes’ tomato and spinach soup won last year’s Hunterdon County Soup Cook-Off.
Cook to Order “offers a nice menu of salads, sandwiches and other lunchtime fare, but the soup is the main draw,” according to The Daily Meal.
New York’s best soup is the matzo ball soup at 2nd Avenue Deli in Manhattan, while Pennsylvania’s best soup is the snapper soup at the Oyster House in Philadelphia, according to the website.
“Just about every culture has a place in its diet for soup,” says The Daily Meal. “Even amateur cooks can throw a halfway decent soup together. But when in the hands of professional chefs, a bowl of soup can be elevated to serious heights.”
