If the line-up includes “Jurassic Park,” Bruce Springsteen and cannon fire, there’s only one possible reason: It’s summer season at the symphony. We all know its familiar features.
But there’s something special about Pacific Symphony’s “Summerfest,” announced today. The orchestra’s summer season, associated for years with the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre, had to change locations after the large outdoor venue closed Oct. 30. This summer it will occupy the Pacific Amphitheatre at the Orange County Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa.
For a time it seemed that a move to the Great Park was possible. The amphitheater proposed for the Irvine site has not yet been built. But a move to the fairgrounds could have unexpected advantages over that location as well as the orchestra’s original summer home: more walk-ins.
Kathy Kramer, OC Fair & Event Center CEO, thinks the ensemble’s presence at the fair will be equally beneficial for both. “We are very excited about this partnership with Pacific Symphony … We love the idea of fair-goers being exposed to the symphony and symphony fans being exposed to the fair.”
