Leading up to the Oscars Feb. 26, Chicago Tribune film critic Michael Phillips presents a weeklong video series saluting Academy Award-winning musicals across the decades.  

Today’s video segment takes us back to post-World War II Paris, or MGM’s backlot version thereof, for "An American in Paris" starring Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron.

Check back tomorrow for Michael’s take on "Gigi."

Meanwhile, Michael will also be on WFMT all week for "The Film Score: Music for Oscar Week 2017." The program airs at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday-Sunday on WFMT-FM 98.7. Here is today’s segment:
