The Unesco “strongly regrets” the decision of the Turkish authorities, “without dialogue screening”, to “change the status” of the former basilica of the hagia Sophia, a world heritage site of Unesco, responded Friday in a statement that the director of the united Nations organization for education, science and culture (Unesco).

Unesco was reacting to the announcement Friday of Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the opening of the ex-basilica St. Sophie in Istanbul to muslim prayers, after a court has paved the way for its transformation into a mosque by cancelling his current status as a museum.
