Drawn To Death, the newest game from God of War designer David Jaffe, will release April 4, according to Sony.
The third-person shooter/action title revolves around arena-style combat with up to four players. Players fight and brawl in large arenas with stylized visuals meant to echo a high school teenager’s notebook.
As with past Jaffe titles like the Twisted Metal series, Drawn to Death draws heavily on pulp and comic inspirations. Elements in the game include oversized metal music-influenced weapons and a character whose head is a shark. Drawn to Death is expected to be a multiplayer-only title and will cost $19.99.
On the PlayStation Blog, Jaffe said the Drawn to Death’s limited player size was a way to control the game’s pace.
“Sometimes when people hear this they don’t like it. But for us, it’s a strength of the game. A high ‘time to kill’ and too many players in a match ends up making a lot of shooters feel chaotic and random. We wanted Drawn to Death to play differently. We want it to be super fast (And it is!) but not so chaotic that you can’t track what you need to track.” Jaffe said.
Originally announced in 2014, Drawn to Death is the first game from Jaffe’s independent game studio The Bartlet Jones Supernatural Detective Agency. While the game was originally slated to be released as a free-to-play title, the game moved to a traditional paid model after its public beta last fall.
