Four people have been wounded since late Sunday morning in unrelated shootings in Chicago, according to police.
In the most recent attack, a 17-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the lower left leg at Erie Street and Racine Avenue about 5:35 p.m. in the West Town neighborhood. Someone drove the boy to Stroger Hospital in a private vehicle, and he was in good condition there, according to a police media notification.
The boy was walking when a vehicle drove by and someone in the back seat fired a gun, hitting the boy, police said. No one was in custody.
Earlier, a 22-year-old man was shot in the left arm just before 2 p.m.
Officers responded to a call in the 1300 block of South Troy Street in the Lawndale neighborhood.
The man was taken to a hospital for treatment at Mt. Sinai Hospital. He was said to be in good condition.
In other shootings:
- In the Cragin neighborhood just after noon, a 42-year-old woman was sitting in a vehicle near Laramie Avenue and West George Street when a man appeared out of a gangway and opened fire, according to officials. The woman was hit in the head by bullet fragments. She was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital where her condition was stablized. Authorities said she wasn’t the intended target. No one was in custody in the shooting.
- A man was shot in the East Garfield Park neighborhood Sunday morning and Chicago police officers responded to the area of 2900 West Adams Street about 9:45 a.m. A 26-year-old man was shot in the left shoulder and left elbow, according to a statement from police. The man was taken by ambulance to Stroger Hospital where his condition was stabilized. Moments later there was a traffic crash in the area, closer to Sacramento and Jackson boulevards. A responding officer called for a second ambulance to take the person from the car crash to a hosptial for treatment. Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago police spokesman, said he wasn’t certain whether the traffic crash had any connection to the shooting. "I’m still waiting to hear if it’s a separate incident or if it’s somehow related," he said. Detectives from the department’s Area North are investigating. Check back for updates.
