NEWARK — A 38-year-old East Orange man was arrested Tuesday in a Newark shooting that left another man wounded last month, officials said.

Richard Chambers was charged with aggravated assault and weapons offenses in the Jan. 31 attack, according to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose.

The victim, identified as a 25-year-old Newark man, was shot shortly before midnight near Fairmount Street and South Orange Avenue, officials said in a statement. He was treated for non life-threatening injuries at University Hospital.

Members of Newark’s Fugitive Apprehension Team arrested Chambers, Ambrose added. Police did not disclose a possible motive for the shooting.
