JERSEY CITY — The 25-year-old man charged with shooting a woman inside a Harrison home over the weekend was ordered to be held in jail before his trial.
Victor Sagastume is charged with attempted murder and multiple weapons offenses for the Feb. 18 shooting. Police said the 33-year-old victim was shot twice in the chest and brought to Jersey City Medical Center.
It’s unclear the exact relationship between Sagastume and the victim, though they do have two children together, police said.
During a brief court hearing Monday afternoon, Hudson County assistant prosecutor Tom Zuppa said the state filed for pretrial detention under the state’s new Criminal Justice Reform Act.
Court officials said Sagastume was not flagged as having an elevated risk of violence during his public safety assessment.
Additional information surrounding the investigation was not immediately available. More information will likely be released Tuesday through a criminal complaint.
