The head of aid organization Oxfam in UK wants to resign. Mark Ring Gold will vacate his post by end of year, organization shared. The reason is reworking of misconduct and abuse allegations against Oxfam employees.

In February, Diebritische vice-boss Penny Lawrence had already resigned. The scandal was triggered by reports of parties by Oxfam employees with prostitutes in Haiti in year 2010 and in Chad in year 2006. Seven employees, including Oxfam head of Haiti, also had to leave. The former Oxfam top manager, Helen Evans, later reported in a television interview that Oxfam employees forced women to sex in return for help in emergencies. Oxfam is accused of covering up events.

Oxfam chief Ring Gold had previously been criticised for statements in connection with accusations of abuse. In an interview with Guardian, he said his organization was attacked as if she had “murdered babies in her crib”. “I was under stress,” ring gold later explained his behavior and apologized. He has been head of Oxfam in UK since 2013.

The organization must now regain public confidence, writes ring gold. In recent months, Oxfam has laid foundations for a far-reaching renewal of organization. But that is a task for a new boss. He was very angry about abuse of power in Haiti, but criticized broad coverage. It has undermined public support for emergency relief organizations, writes ring gold.
