Unlocked Moto Z users in the U.S. may have been very disappointed late last year when Motorola rolled out the Android 7.0 Nougat update to Verizon-exclusive Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Droid Force. Around the same time, unlocked Moto Z handsets in other regions also got the Android Nougat treatment. However, things are about to change since the company is now slowly but surely rolling out the highly anticipated software update in the country.
According to Android Central, after promising last month that a February release is being considered for the Nougat update, Motorola is now sending the update to unlocked Moto Z models albeit in small batches. The slow rollout is done to minimize problems and to really keep track of the update’s success rate. At this point, a few users have been sharing about the successful update of their devices on social media, which is a good sign for users who are anticipating the arrival of the Nougat software on their handset.
The new update has a build code of NPL25.86-17-3. In the notification sent out to Moto Z owners, Motorola reminds users to plug in their device and make sure that there is sufficient battery during the download process. Highlighted in the notification are the Nougat enhancements, such as the multitasking features, the more efficient notification controls, as well as the improved data saver and battery features. The update also comes with Daydream certification, so Moto Z owners can now use their handset with Google’s VR platform.
The Moto Z software update comes in the wake of user complaints about Motorola’s untimely releases. 9To5Google pointed out that unlike in the previous years, the company is now delayed when it comes to updating its Android devices into the latest Android OS. Previously, the company managed to roll out the latest Android software to its devices even before it arrives on Nexus devices.
Meanwhile, because Motorola kept its promise on the release of the Nougat update for the unlocked Moto Z, Android Police believes the company will also meet its projected March release for Moto Z Play and Moto Z Play Droid Edition.
