NEWARK — Police on Wednesday made unrelated arrests in a shooting in Newark’s Central Ward and a string of separate robberies in the city’s Ironbound section, Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced.

Alain V. Antoine, 23, of East Orange, was charged with aggravated assault and weapons offenses in the Jan. 10 shooting, which occurred around 12:20 p.m. on South 6th Street, according to police.

The shooting victim, identified as a 38-year-old Newark man, was treated for his injuries at University Hospital and released, authorities said in a statement.

Members of the city police division’s fugitive unit arrested Antoine early Wednesday, Ambrose said.

Police also charged two boys, a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old, in four robberies between Jan. 10 and Jan. 24 in the Ironbound.

Ambrose said detectives “aggressively followed up on leads and other evidence” leading to the robbery arrests Wednesday morning. Police did not publicly identify the teens because they are juveniles.

Both teens, who are Newark residents, were charged with multiple counts of robbery and conspiracy. There were no serious injuries in the robberies.
