Second-generation Eeveelutions have arrived thanks to the Gen 2 Pokémon Update. It’s time for Trainers to finally get their hands on Umbreon and Espeon. But we are reminding you that obtaining these two could be tricky. Also, leaving things to sheer luck wouldn’t guarantee you with the end-result you are hoping for. Fortunately, some players who already explored the updated “Pokémon GO” app are kind enough to share a simple cheat that would do the trick.

How to get an Espeon

Espeon, like Umbreon, is a Gen 2 evolution of Normal-type Pokémon Eevee. But unlike Umbreon who is a Dark-type Pokémon, Espeon is a Psychic-type pocket monster. Its distinct cat-like appearance is also as attractive as the other Eeveelutions. The red jewel encrusted on its forehead, the whisker-like tufts on its cheeks, the large and long pointed ears and its long tail that splits into two are its peculiarities. Also, as opposed to Umbreon that is two-tone, Espeon only has one color (lilac) of fur covering its body.

As one of the Eeveelutions, getting an Espeon requires 25 Eevee Candy. However, meeting this requirement does not assure one that he or she will be getting this Gen 2 Pokémon. Good thing there’s an easy-to-do cheat that enables Trainers to obtain Espeon. According to Reddit user Ceisus, renaming an Eevee to “Sakura” before evolving it will do the trick. Other players who tried this cheat confirmed that  it does work. However, you should know that this only works once.

For people wondering why Sakura is the word that could transform Eevee into Espeon, the reason behind this is actually found in the Pokémon anime series. The first Espeon to appear on the show was the one owned by Sakura. According to Bulbapedia, Ash and his friends initially ran into Sakura and her Eevee. Due to some circumstances that involved Sakura’s sisters, the Kimono Girls, and Team Rocket in that episode, Sakura’s Eevee eventually transformed into Espeon.

Meanwhile, in case the first attempt to evolving an Eevee to Espeon does not work, some Redditors are saying that restarting the app will fix this. Previously, there were players who shared online that to ensure that Espeon is the end-product of evolving an Eevee, the app should be restarted prior the evolution process. However, many others are already saying that even without restarting “Pokémon GO,” there is an assurance that one would obtain an Espeon.
