Police on Sunday were questioning a relative of a Wheaton woman found slain in her apartment Saturday night and asking for the public’s help finding two cars tied to the killing.
Authorities were called to a four-unit building in the 1300 block of Woodcutter Lane about 6:45 p.m. Saturday and found the woman dead in one of the apartments. She later was identified as Erin Leinweber, 58, a longtime resident of the complex, according to police and public records.
Officials would not say how Leinweber was killed, but they determined the manner of death was homicide, according to Wheaton Deputy Police Chief Bill Murphy.
Officials called in the DuPage County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Task Force to help them in the investigation. Murphy said officers quickly identified a person of interest. Police were searching for Leinweber’s killer most of the day Sunday; before 4 p.m. they caught up with the man they were pursuing, Murphy said.
The man’s name is not being released because he has not been charged with a crime. Murphy identified him as a relative of Leinweber.
He said Leinweber’s killing was an isolated event.
"We do not believe there to be an immediate danger to the general public," he wrote in a news release.
Investigators were trying to find Leinweber’s car, a red 2009 Kia Spectra with Illinois plate V264403, which may have a Hillary Clinton bumper sticker on the rear of the vehicle.
Authorities also were seeking a beige 2000 Toyota Camry with Illinois plate Z810380 that may be useful in the investigation.
Police asked that anyone who sees either vehicle please call 911 to report it to law enforcement.
