“Riverdale” Season 1 dropped a controversial teaser even before it premiered on The CW on Jan. 26. In the clip, Veronica (Camila Mendes) and Betty (Lili Reinhart) shared a kiss.
The relationship between the two characters hasn’t been explored yet. But Mendes recently opened up to TV Line to clarify whether or not Veronica is bisexual. The actress explained that Veronica and Betty’s kiss wasn’t supposed to be romantic.
“I think that was a way to get Cheryl’s attention. Veronica is a manipulative person. She just want to take hold of the situation. But that being said, it wouldn’t be out of the question for her to be bisexual, and maybe she is, and maybe that’s something that could be explored one day. But it’s not something we’ve really decided on,” she said.
Another controversial storyline in “Riverdale” has to do with Cheryl’s (Madelaine Petsch) relationship with her twin, Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines). The latter has been killed by a mysterious suspect. Before his death, Cheryl and Jason spent some time on a boat while wearing matching outfits. This led fans to think that the siblings have feelings for each other. However, Petsch clarified that Cheryl is not in love with Jason in any way.
“It’s that he’s the only person who’s ever shown her unconditional love, and she’s the only person she’s ever unloaded unconditional love back to. So it’s a very awkward, weird place for her when she loses him… Her family doesn’t show love to her. She’s distraught and so lonely without him,” she explained.
Meanwhile, The CW just dropped a sneak peek for “Riverdale” Season 1, episode 2, titled “A Touch of Evil” (via Spoilers Guide). In the clip, Archie (K.J. Apa) encourages Ms. Grundy (Sarah Habel) to share what they overheard at Sweetwater River after they found out that Jason has been murdered.
“Riverdale” Season 1, episode 2 will air on The CW on Feb. 2 at 9 p.m. EST.
