TRENTON – A former Mercer County Technical Schools, employee who was charged with pocketing almost $9,000 from bank deposits for the school, entered into a pre-trial intervention program Wednesday.

The program will allow Katrina Daniels, 42, to avoid prison time by completing probation, community service and by paying back the $8,667 in school funds, which she was accused of stealing.

Hopewell Township police arrested Daniels, who worked in the administration office, on Nov. 30 after they were alerted by school officials who had noticed money missing from a bank deposit. Police discovered that Daniels had been altering bank deposits and keeping what amounted to almost $9,000 over the course of several months, officers have said.

Daniels will have to complete 40 hours of community service and may be in the program for as long as 3 years, Mercer County prosecutors said.

A representative for the school did not immediately return a call for comment Wednesday.
