While her father and former U.S. President Barack Obama is spending the few weeks after his transition out of executive power relaxing in Palm Springs and the British Virgin Islands, Malia Obama was spotted living it up in New York City well into the wee hours of Friday morning.
The 18-year-old former first daughter attended HBO’s premiere party in Manhattan for “Girls” Thursday night by Vulture writer E. Alex Jung, who tweeted: “I thought I was staring at a model at this party. But nope it was just Malia Obama.”
Obama then went dancing following the star-studded event where she was seen at the Lower East Side’s Happy Ending restaurant and bar. The secret service accompanied her on the New York City romp, but was to blend in among the 600 people at the premiere and then the bar afterward, the New York Post’s Page Six reported.
Despite the long hours partying Thursday night, Obama was seen headed to her internship Friday morning. Malia is expected to attend Harvard University in the fall but is currently taking a gap year and working as an intern with Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein in New York City. While her parents have prestigious careers in law and politics, former first lady Michelle Obama has said her daughter plans to work in the film industry. Malia also previously interned on the set of “Girls” and worked as a production assistant in 2014 on CBS’s science fiction television drama series “Extant.”
“The president and Mrs. Obama announced today that their daughter Malia will attend Harvard University in the fall of 2017 as a member of the Class of 2021. Malia will take a gap year before beginning school,” the White House said in a statement in May 2016. The former first couple’s daughter has been seen since then spending time in South America and recently attended the Sundance Film Festival in January.
