The WrestleMania 33 card appears to be falling into place, especially after Elimination Chamber Sunday night. One major question, however, might not be answered until the day of WWE’s biggest show of 2017.
Which match will headline WrestleMania 33?
When Randy Orton won the Royal Rumble, it earned him a spot in the main event of WrestleMania 33. With Bray Wyatt taking the WWE Championship from John Cena at the most recent pay-per-view, it’s all but guaranteed that he’ll face Orton on April 2 in Orlando.
“This pretty much tells me I’m in the main event at WrestleMania,” Wyatt told ESPN.com. “That’s pretty cool.”
But when WWE stipulates that the Royal Rumble winner will compete in the main event of WrestleMania, that doesn’t necessarily refer to the night’s final match. There are usually multiple “main event” matches at WrestleMania, and the biggest one doesn’t always feature the winner of the 30-man battle royal.

That was the case in 2012 when Sheamus won the Royal Rumble, and his World Heavyweight Championship match at WrestleMania 28 was the very first on the card. The year before, Alberto Del Rio won the Royal Rumble, but his World Heavyweight Championship match didn’t headline WrestleMania 27 either.
Orton has been one of WWE’s top stars for the last decade, winning the world title 12 times. Wyatt’s WWE Championship victory could help him reach a new level of superstardom, as well.
Their match, however, doesn’t seem big enough to close out WrestleMania 33. Two other matches have the chance to be ranked ahead of the WWE Championship match on the card.
Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg is currently the frontrunner to headline WrestleMania 33. They are easily two of the four biggest stars in WWE, and their match will get some mainstream appeal.
Goldberg will face Kevin Owens for the WWE Universal Championship at Fastlane on March 5, and he’s expected to win the title. If the former face of WCW defends the top championship on “Monday Night Raw” against Lesnar, it’s hard to imagine that match won’t close out WrestleMania 33.
There is a chance that The Undertaker vs. Roman Reigns would headline WrestleMania 33 over Lesnar vs. Goldberg. There’s no guarantee that he’ll return for the PPV, but The Undertaker’s confrontation with Reigns at the Royal Rumble indicates that he’ll take on the former Shield member in Orlando.
The Undertaker doesn’t typically headline WrestleMania. He hasn’t done it since 2010 when he faced Shawn Michaels. That match was the last of Michaels’ career, and there’s speculation that The Undertaker could call it quits after WrestleMania 33. If it’s announced that The Undertaker might not fight beyond the PPV, there’s a chance his match will be the show’s last.
Roman Reigns defeated Triple H for the WWE Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 32. He’s fought in the WrestleMania main event in each of the last two years.
