The Kremlin estimated on Friday that it had fulfilled “some” of its objectives after 100 days of offensive against Ukraine, judging that “many localities” had been “liberated”, allowing the populations to return to “a peaceful life”.

“This work will continue until all the objectives of the special military operation are fulfilled,” Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
Russia launched a vast offensive against Ukraine on February 24, justified by the need to protect the Russian-speaking population of Donbass, a region in the east of the country partly controlled since 2014 by pro-Russian separatists, from an alleged “genocide”. .
According to Moscow, it is also a question of “denazifying” Ukrainian power, whose pro-Western policy has been perceived for years as a threat.
The Russian assault on Kyiv failed, however, and Russian forces are now focused on Donbass, the scene of deadly fighting for weeks. The Russians are making very difficult progress there.
“As regards the security (of the populations of Donbass), measures are underway, certain results have been achieved,” said Mr. Peskov.
According to him, “many localities have been liberated from the pro-Nazi armed forces of Ukraine, as well as from nationalist elements”.
