PENNSVILLE TWP. — When the big red firetruck pulled up in front of his house, little did the young boy know that on board was a special surprise — his dad returning home from military service.
6ABC says on Thursday soldier Tom Allen returned to his Pennsville home for leave from the U.S. Air Force.
To make that homecoming even more special, a Pennsville Fire and Rescue Co. No. 1 truck with its sirens sounding pulled up in front of the home where Allen’s 5-year-old son, Jace, was waiting.
The video shows Jace fascinated with the truck and then him bursting into a wide smile as his dad bounds out of the truck and gives him a great hug.
Pennsville fire and Rescue Co. No. 1 Chief Larry Zimmerman told NJ Advance Media Friday it was a “no-brainer” for the company to grant use of one of its trucks for the surprise homecoming.
“As a department we appreciate all of our military and look to help them whenever possible,” Zimmerman said. “Additionally, we have several active members who have served in the military making it that much more dear to our heart.”
Allen is expected to be home on leave for a month, the report said.
