CLEVELAND, Ohio – A trio of fundraisers held at Cleveland bars raised $19,430 for the family of David Fahey, the police officer killed by a hit-and-run driver last month.
Tilted Kilt in Cleveland raised $11,430 in sales and cash donations, a rep for the downtown bar said this week. The all-day benefit was held Feb. 2. That same night, a few blocks away, Harry Buffalo staged a “Cheers for Dave” event and brought in “about $5,000,” according to a general manager for the bar, which charged $30 admission. And the first fundraiser, June 26 at Masthead Brewing Co. on Superior Avenue, drew $3,000 in sales of beer, shirts and wristbands.
Fahey was killed June 24 as he was setting up road flares on Interstate 90 in Cleveland. A Lorain man, Israel Alvarez, was arrested and charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and felony hit-and-run in connection with the case.
Fahey is the first officer killed in the line of duty since 2008, when Patrolman Derek Owens was shot during a chase on the city’s Southeast side.
