CLEVELAND, Ohio – The dawn of the Bray Wyatt era has begun in WWE.

Sunday night’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view concluded with Wyatt winning the WWE Championship, setting a showdown between Wyatt Family members Bray and Randy Orton at WrestleMania 33 in April.

The match has been long rumored and met with some groans from fans. Yet, while putting the title on the line in a feud that doesn’t involve John Cena or AJ Styles seems odd, it may be a great move for SmackDown.

WWE has had a hard time solidifying Wyatt, who is loaded with potential, as a top-tier heel. Putting him a main event level match with Orton seems to do the trick. It should also make for a nice late career run for Orton, assuming he wins the championship at WrestleMania.

This is the push the Wyatt Family as needed. It has already raised the profile of Luke Harper and should do the same for Erick Rowan when he returns.

As for the rest of Elimination Chamber, it was somewhat of a surprise to see Naomi defeat Alexa Bliss for the SmackDown’s Women’s belt, as the latter’s run as champ has been great. But the move elevates SmackDown’s women’s division by making Naomi a star (Take note, Raw).

Lastly, WWE used Elimination Chamber to foreshadow a mixed tag match at WrestleMania 33. According to Cageside Seats, Maryse and Nikki Bella’s confrontation backstage will lead to a match featuring Bella and boyfriend John Cena against Maryse and husband The Miz.
