Matt Damon has gotten a lot of flak for playing the big (white) hero in “The Great Wall,” a new movie set in ancient China. Now, the people of Twitter have seen fit to throughly roast him on the occasion of the film’s wide opening.
Comedian Jenny Yang started using the hashtag #ThankYouMattDamon after attending a premiere of the film late Wednesday night in Los Angeles.
“THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU’VE DONE TO SAVE THE CHINESE PEOPLE, MATT DAMON,” she tweeted, alongside a photo of the stars of the film standing near the movie screen.
“(O)ne time,” Teresa Wang tweeted in reply, “I was having trouble decorating my house, and Matt Damon came and feng shuied it for me #thankyoumattdamon.”
Hilarity swiftly ensued, positioning Damon as a chopsticks instructor and inventor of both gunpowder and Chinese zodiac placemats. Matt Damon taught philosophy to Sun Tzu and Confucius and was Richard “Data” Wang in “The Goonies” and Short Round in “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.” Matt Damon instructed Bruce Lee and Kung Fu Panda in the ways of kung fu. Matt Damon was Disney’s Mulan, but also the new inspiration behind General Tso’s chicken.
