MIDDLETOWN – A former employee of a private, members only country club in Monmouth County has been charged with targeting members of the club during a burglary spree, police said.
Lisa Bostrom, 54, of Long Branch, used her knowledge of the Beacon Hill Country Club’s members to break into their homes in a series of burglaries that started on Dec. 24, Middletown police Detective Lt. Paul Bailey said.
Officers found Bostrom and alleged accomplice, Garry Doherty, 61, of Long Branch, after a resident called police around 8:45 p.m. on Feb. 5 to report a man who approached a home and asked about a lost dog, Bailey said.
A vehicle that matched a description of one reported to have been involved in the burglaries was also found, Bailey said.
Officers arrested Bostrom and Doherty and took them back to police headquarters, Bailey said. Police learned the two were also responsible for burglaries in Holmdel, Bailey said.
A majority of the victims were members of the country club in Middletown, Bailey said. Investigating officers learned that Bostrom was a former employee of the country club and identified victims who were members of the club, Bailey said.
Bostrom and Doherty were each charged with burglary, conspiracy, theft, criminal mischief and other related charges. Both were processed at police headquarters and released on summonses to appear in court at a later date.
Stephen Casner, president of the country club’s Board of Trustees, said the staff has cooperated with police since the first reported incident and has been transparent with its membership.
Bostrom was a bartender at the country club and did not have access to membership records, Casner said. He said the membership is “pretty comfortable” that the club has made their safety a priority.
“We really appreciate what the police have done,” Casner said. “They’ve been incredibly cooperative since the first instance was reported, and we thank them for their assistance.”
Police asked anyone with information to call Detective First Class Daniel Sullivan of the Middletown Police Department at 732-615-2120.
