Is the end near for Rayna Jaymes on “Nashville”? Don’t ask Connie Britton. The actress doesn’t seem interested in clearing up any rumors about her possible exit. While fans are stressing about the possible twist, Britton said she was entertained by the reports.
“The rumors swirling around are really fun because there are so many stories going on, with stalkers and everything else on the show,” she told Parade.
With the move to CMT, “Nashville” Season 5 has been able to devote more time to every major storyline. They’re also allowing storylines to play out for a long while. Rayna’s stalker has been an issue throughout the season, and it doesn’t seem like he is going anywhere soon. He has even attempted to get to her through her daughter Daphne (Maisy Stella). It’s a frightening storyline, and fans are concerned that Rayna might not survive it.
Britton is reportedly only signed on for about half of Season 5. When Parade asked about the reports, the “Friday Night Lights” alum would only say that the rumors were “fun” and praised the fans.
“I cherish this role,” Britton added. “I cherish this character. I cherish this cast and this crew. I feel very fortunate that I get to do this and I absolutely do not do it alone. So for you to say that I’m the heart of ‘Nashville ,’ I’m so grateful for that, but honestly nothing I do would exist without everyone else. And our show wouldn’t still be here without the fans.”
Britton has previously dodged questions about her commitment to “Nashville.” TVLine asked her about rumors of her departure at the Emmy Awards. “I don’t know where that stuff came from. Like, it’s kind of crazy, the things that come out,” she said.
Luckily, Ellen DeGeneres was able to get a more direct answer. “I’m in. I’m in for the duration,” Britton said last month. Let’s hope she means the duration of the show and not just the duration of her contract.
It looks like fans will have to keep watching to find out what happens. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if the show throws in a cliffhanger soon. After all, the midseason finale airs on March 9.
“Nashville” Season 5 airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST on CMT.
