The mini-bus that hit the workers was empty except for the driver when it hopped onto the sidewalk at 85th Street and Third Avenue just before 8:30 a.m., according to officials.

The driver told cops his brakes failed, sources said. He was not injured, remained at the scene and was not arrested.

The injured pedestrians work for the DOE Fund, which helps ex-cons get back on their feet. Two were taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital, while the other pair were taken to St Luke’s Hospital, according to the FDNY. All suffered non-life threatening injuries and were in stable condition.
